I was born and raised in England, which is where I began studying the cello when I was just two years old. By the age of seven, after seeing the movie “The Music Man” and listening to London ska nonstop as a kid (also, thanks to Gabe in No Doubt), I was inspired to start learning the trombone, which I’ve continued ever since.  After my family relocated to the US, I got a double performance degree from the University of Miami’s school of music, in both cello and jazz trombone.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to perform all over world. When I lived in Miami, I was able to take part in a summer of training at the Henry Mancini Institute based in Los Angeles, during my freshman year at UM. Which gave me a clear focus, goal, and direction for my music. I decided I had to be a session musician in Los Angeles!

With my diverse musical background I’ve been able to cultivate and perform various types of music, from jazz to classical to RnB, funk, rock, and latin. My first big gig happened when I was 19 in 2005, I was asked to join Kanye West’s “Touch the Sky” tour, which I played the cello.   Then in 2008, my original electro-jazz group was asked to open the very first Jazz on Edge Festival.

Since then, I moved to Los Angeles, where I work as a freelance musician, recording cello, trombone, bass, and vocals, in various sessions; as well as performing on TV, festivals, and a variety of live shows.  Recently I played on three seasons of American Idol on both cello and trombone, and appeared with P. Diddy on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.

2011 was a great year, I wrote and performed on a few tracks for Macy Gray’s upcoming original album, on both cello and trombone.   I also recorded the solo cello song “Eclipse” for the Twilight Breaking Dawn movie.   And participated in Duran Duran’s Unstaged concert directed by David Lynch, played with them at Coachella, performed on the PBS Special “Listen to Me: Buddy Holly,” and toured the world with Josh Groban.

2012 looks promising too, as I started it off performing and recording with Andy Grammer for his Live EP.  I’ve done multiple episodes of American Idol on stage with the horn section, and I just performed cello with Lana Del Rey on her American Idol debut.  Macy Gray’s ‘Covered’ album just released on iTunes which I recorded both cello and trombone for her cover of ‘Teenagers.’  It’s an incredible album, so please go buy it!  Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year has to bring!
