Real‑Time Conversational Testing — Experiment Design & Technical Implementation (Jabra / GN Audio)

I co‑designed the full experimental framework and led the creative and technical development of a real‑time conversational test environment built to reflect authentic, everyday communication. My role spanned experience design, sound design, and technical innovation, ensuring the study felt natural, intuitive, and ecologically valid for participants.

To power the experiment, I designed and built the core audio engine, including a custom degradation VST and a bespoke Pure Data patch that handled real‑time processing, routing, and dynamic manipulation of distractor speech and wind noise. This toolset enabled us to precisely control perceptual variables while maintaining a seamless, conversational user experience.

The study produced highly actionable insights for our DSP engineering teams, defining the perceptual thresholds for acceptable vs. unacceptable noise artifacts and directly informing product tuning and feature design. The work was widely recognized internally as an innovative, high‑impact initiative that significantly advanced our understanding of real‑world user expectations and audio quality perception.
