Mini Bio:

Claire Courchene is an English/American composer living in Copenhagen.  After fulfilling a successful career in Los Angeles, as a multi-instrumentalist & producer, recording, touring, and performing around the world. Claire recently returned to her roots in Europe, to pursue a career in film and television composition.  Through the span of her career she has worked with some of the most prominent names in the music and film industry including Kanye West, Lana del Rey, Frank Ocean, David Lynch, Josh Groban, and Madonna.  Familiar to TV audiences worldwide, Claire has also appeared multiple times on various shows ranging from American Idol, The Voice, Glee, all the late night talk shows, and is a regular on NBC’s Hollywood Game Night, as a member of the house band.  Claire now happily lives in Denmark and draws much inspiration from her Scandinavian surroundings, spending her time composing for commercials, TV shows, and indie feature films.

From Claire:

"For Parallax I wanted to try something new.  Nothing radical like creating new instruments or structures, but new in the sense of blending sounds that I usually wouldn’t think to blend.  I was brought up in the classical world, playing in string quartets and symphony orchestras.  I didn't mean to, but as with most things you feel forced to do, I fell out of love with classical music sometime during my college days.  I’ve always loved pop music, and from that point on I was able to focus primarily on it.
Departing from my strict structures of classical music and that world, led me on an adventure of discovery of so many incredible artists and music all over the world in different genres.  Everything has a tendency to come full circle, and recently I’ve acquired a newfound love of classical music again.  In fact the last two years, I’ve been obsessed with lofi hip hop and neo-classical - if I don’t have one on, it’s the other.   I love how producers of lofi hip hop have taken samples or ideas from classic jazz and renewed them with the hip hop beats.  At the same time, I’m equally in love with contemporary composers who are able to make new classical music accessible and palatable again.  So with this excitement and passion surrounding my love of these forms of music, I created this EP Parallax.
the effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions
The definition of parallax, runs hand in hand with this EP because music is so subjective.  We all have different walks of life and it’s ok that we see and hear things differently.  Since music sounds different to me than it does to you, Parallax describes this perfectly.
The Parallax EP is a group of musical sketches that highlight my influences from the last few years.  I took my own orchestral works, sampled them, and then added hip hop beats to forge my own take on these genres.  Some pieces I delve further into the experimentation, others I approach in a more traditional way.   Whether you sit and listen to these intently, drive to them, make dinner, do work, study, etc., I hope they are as fun to listen to as they were to create."

With this debut release marking Claire’s exploration into composition and truly finding her unique voice; Claire has written, produced, engineered, and performed all of the instruments herself.

Sit back, relax, and see where your imagination takes you.

There are several strange combinations that compliment each other in fascinating ways: peanut butter and honey, cream cheese and Sriracha, oil and vinegar. Yet, there’s one combination that warms our hearts more than others- trombone and cello. And that is Claire Courchene.

Parallax is the perfect introduction to Claire’s approach as a composer & producer. She is also currently finishing up a neo-classical collaboration with Danish film composer Jesper Mechlenburg, and putting the finishing touches on her next comic book installment for her electronic project, Ana-Tole, which will both be released later this year.
